Berlin – The Capital City of Germany

With its 180 museums and a lot of cultural attractions Berlin is the ideal location for successful events, fascinating tours and new trends.

Art: World Treasures, History and contemporary Art

Berlin is a city of museums. Around 200 museums, private collections, palaces and memorials trace historical events, provide insights into many areas of knowledge and showcase world treasures. Berlin’s Museum Island, the largest ensemble of museums in the world, was inscribed on the World Heritage List 1999. At this spot five museums present over 6000 years of art and cultural history.

Berlin has a far more chequered history than almost any other German city. Numerous museums and memorials document the glorious eras as well as the dark periods – from the flourishing cultural landscape in the Golden twenties to the Shoah, the post-1945 divided city and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Visitors can explore these changes in such museums as the German Historical Museum, the Jewish Museum Berlin, the newly opened Topography of Terror documentation centre and the Berlin Wall Memorial.

Berlin is also home to approximately 440 galleries, making it a major centre for contemporary art. Here over 6000 creative artists produce today’s art for tomorrow’s collections.

Culture: High-quality entertainment

Berlin is a fascinatingly vibrant and creative cultural hub at the heart of Europe. Modern variety theatre and witty satirical revues, thrilling musicals and popular film festivals, unforgettable premieres or several theatre performances on one evening – with over 1500 events every day, Berlin’s cultural landscape simply has it all.

When it comes to flourishing opera metropolises, Berlin is truly exceptional. However, the German capital is not only world famous for its three opera houses, but also home to eight major symphony orchestras, including the renowned Berlin Philharmonic.

Berlin has around 150 theatres and stages where the programme ranges from classical tragedies to contemporary plays. Today, as that Roaring Twenties lifestyle comes back in fashion, such traditional venues as the Admiralspalast, Quatsch Comedy Club, Kabarett-Theater Distel and the Friedrichstadtpalast, as well as the Wintergarten Variety offer an unbeatable mix of witty and popular entertainment.

Shopping: Something for every taste and budget

Berlin offers an incredible range of shopping options – and fans of exquisite designer clothes, bargain hunters or trendsetters chasing cutting-edge fashion are all in for a real treat at the city’s large shopping centres, department stores, small retail outlets and upscale boutiques. And whether your look is cool, casual or classic – Berlin has something for every taste and pocket.

The Potsdamer Platz Arcaden, Alexa Centre and other large, popular malls house an incredible mix of outlets. But the city is also home to traditional shopping streets with a mix of long-established shops and new outlets.

Berlin’s charm as a shopping destination is also evident in the diverse local neighbourhoods. Every district has its own unique character and centre providing a vibrant focus for local business life. Some neighbourhoods are dedicated to upscale exclusivity, while others are renowned for their arts and crafts. For a closer encounter with the young creative scene and a wealth of tempting outlets and workshops – visit Prenzlauer Berg, Mitte, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain and Neukölln.
